Sotogrande can justifiably claim to have some of the best golf courses in Europe after Golf World (November 2003) once again voted Valderrama it's number 1 and Sotogrande Old Course it's number 7. With nearby San Roque at number 35 they form what is locally known as the Golden Triangle. Inevitably, these courses are not cheap to play and the first two are ostensibly members courses so have limited tee times. Fortunately, there is now the excellent Almenara with 27 holes and La Canada, now 18, within Sotogrande and the wonderful links course at Alcaidesa just up the road which are much more affordable.
Within a reasonable drive, you could then take in a huge selection of courses. We would recommend heading up the coast towards Jerez to Montecastillo (Golf World rated 71), regular host of the Volvo Masters. If you head for the bright lights of Marbella you'll have more choice but the courses are busier and the rounds slower.
The courses in and around Sotogrande never seem to be as busy as those further up the coast. You do need to book tee times though. We have discounted rates at most of them so let us know if you want to book.
